City of Aurora / Aurora Water – Reuse Water System Master Plan Update

Significant treatment and distribution system upgrades have been incorporated into Aurora Water’s reuse water system since its construction in the late 1960’s. A master plan update was completed by Richard P. Arber Associates in 2008 to optimize the existing reuse system. The plan provided for development of additional customers, evaluation of storage, identification of costs/phasing, and completion of a hydraulic model.

Key components of the project included:

  • Evaluation of water sources including reuse water, groundwater and raw water.
  • Identification of over 200 potential reuse customers including existing and proposed golf courses, parks, greenbelts, cemeteries, commercial facilities, industrial users and wholesale customers.
  • Development of typical irrigation rates, peaking factors and diurnal demand patterns.
  • Evaluation of water sources including reuse water, groundwater and raw water.
  • Evaluation of over 30 water storage sites for use with operational and annual reuse water storage.
  • Development of design criteria and a 25-year phased capital improvements plan (CIP) for optimization of the existing system.
  • Development of anticipated phased CIP costs and a proposed 50-year rate structure for implementation of the improvements.
